Midfielder lewis holtby has found a new club. The former captain of the german U 21 national team is on loan from tottenham hotspur to FC fulham in the english premier league until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old fubballer has already trained with his new team. "Fulham has made a great effort for lewis. It is a very well run club with an excellent coach. The playing system and philosophy suit lewis very well. He can gain match practice in the second half of the season, and then we’ll see how things develop between now and the summer," holtby advisor marcus noack told dpa.
In fulham, the midfield all-rounder will meet compatriot sascha riether and will fight together with the defender to stay in the league. The cottagers are currently second to last in the table. Fulham hopes to use the newcomer already on saturday in the match against FC southampton.
In recent days holtby was also linked with FC schalke 04 and borussia dortmund. "A return to the bundesliga fell through due to circumstances beyond our control," explained consultant noack.
Holtby moved from schalke to tottenham a year ago, but was unable to earn a regular place there. Under new coach tim sherwood, the former mainz player has played virtually no role of late.
